Dear Church,
With the weather gradually getting warmer and warmer, I can sense my outlook on life changing! I’ve always enjoyed spring and summer over the cold of winter. I find I have much more energy and excitement about life when the sun is shining, and the air is warm. Speaking of energy and excitement, there are several things in the life of our congregation that I am excited about.
First off, I am grateful for the opportunity to attend the Disciples Heritage Fellowship Conference in Illinois with several friends from the church. The conference went from April 22-23. We had several great conversations (and meals!) and heard some helpful speakers and presentations. It is always good to get a reminder that we as Christians are connected to the broader Church. And the DHF conference did that for me. I am grateful for the relationships and resources DHF provides us.
Second, I am excited for the special Sunday events coming up in the month of May! We have Mother’s Day right around the corner, on May 9th. We will have our First Step Preschool Recognition Sunday the week after, May 16th. And then the Education Committee is planning a trip down to the Children’s Museum (for the youth and the young at heart) after the service on May 23rd. May promises to be a full month!
Finally, I am excited about our sermon times in May and into the summer. We will take two Sundays for special messages on Mother’s Day and Preschool Recognition Sunday. And then starting May 23rd, I am planning on taking us back to the Gospel of Matthew and picking up where we left off about a month ago. We will start Jesus’s Sermon on the Mount, in Matthew 5. The Sermon on the Mount will be where we spend much of our time during the spring and summer, and I believe Jesus’s words will challenge and bless us as we hear and obey them.
Excited with you all,
Benjamin
